Law Enforcement Guideline

Last updated: April 27, 2026

1.1 Introduction

These guidelines explain how law enforcement and government agencies can request user data from Like Minded Labs. We aim to protect user privacy while responding to valid, legally binding requests.

Unless an exception applies under applicable law (for example, a verified emergency request), we require U.S. legal process before disclosing user information.

1.2 Scope and Jurisdiction

These guidelines apply to requests served on Like Minded Labs in the United States. Requests from outside the U.S. must be submitted through applicable international legal process (for example, MLAT or letters rogatory) unless another lawful basis is provided.

1.3 Required U.S. Legal Process

As a U.S.-based company, our disclosure of user data is governed by the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA), including the Stored Communications Act (SCA), 18 U.S.C. §§ 2701–2712. We review each request for validity, specificity, and proportionality, and we disclose data as required or permitted by applicable law.

  • Subpoena: Required to compel disclosure of basic subscriber information under 18 U.S.C. § 2703(c)(2) (for example):

    • Name and registered email address

    • Phone number (if provided)

    • Length of service and registration date

    • IP address at registration and most recent login (if available)

    • Billing address and payment method type (if applicable; excludes full payment card numbers)

  • Court Order: A court order issued under 18 U.S.C. § 2703(d)): May compel certain non-content records with the required statutory showing (often described as “specific and articulable facts”). Examples may include transactional logs, connection history, or routing/addressing information (excluding content).

  • Search warrant: Required to compel disclosure of content (for example, messages, stored files, or other user-generated content), typically issued under Rule 41 of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure or an applicable state equivalent.

1.4 User Notification Policy

Like Minded Labs’ policy is to notify users of requests for their information before disclosure, unless we are legally prohibited or an exception applies.

We may delay or forgo user notice when:

  • We are legally prohibited from doing so by a valid Non-Disclosure Order (e.g., an order issued under 18 U.S.C. § 2705(b)).

  • The request involves a verified emergency involving the imminent threat of death or serious physical injury.

  • We believe in good faith that notice would jeopardize an investigation or that the account is compromised.

If an agency seeks delayed notice, include any applicable non-disclosure order with the request.

Law enforcement agencies seeking to prevent user notification must include a valid Non-Disclosure Order (NDO) with their initial request.

1.5 Data Preservation Requests

Like Minded Labs accepts preservation requests under 18 U.S.C. § 2703(f). Upon receipt of a valid request, we will preserve available account records for 90 days while the requesting agency seeks appropriate legal process.

  • Preservation requests can be extended for one additional 90-day period with a subsequent formal request.

  • If we do not receive applicable legal process before the preservation period ends, preserved data may be deleted consistent with our retention policies.

1.6 Emergency Disclosure Requests

Under 18 U.S.C. §§ 2702(b)(8) and 2702(c)(4), Like Minded Labs may voluntarily disclose information to law enforcement without legal process if we have a good-faith belief that an emergency involving imminent danger of death or serious physical injury requires immediate disclosure.

Emergency requests should be in writing and include: (1) a description of the emergency and why disclosure is needed immediately, (2) the specific identifiers for the account(s) at issue, and (3) the requesting official’s direct contact information.

1.7 Form of Requests & How to Submit

To help us process requests efficiently, requests should be signed by an authorized official, be as specific as possible, and include:

  • The specific user identifier (e.g., registered email address, username, or known IP address). Note: We cannot fulfill requests based solely on real names without further identifying criteria.

  • The data categories requested and the relevant date range/time zone.

  • The issuing authority, case number (if available), and the responsible agent/officer.

  • A direct contact phone number for the agent.

  • An official law enforcement or government email address (e.g., .gov or .mil).

We may request additional information to verify authenticity or to clarify scope. Incomplete or overbroad requests may delay processing.
